Description
The Story-Rich Showcase is a brand-new video showcase dedicated entirely to story-rich indie games and taking place within the Summer Game Fest period (June).
Story-rich games center story, storytelling, or deeper narrative design. It’s not just about having a story, but about the importance of story within the overall design and intention. Story-rich games often feature deep, emotional or political themes and can struggle to stand out when placed alongside more bombastic or mechanically-focused titles.
The Story Rich Showcase seeks to give fans of this style of game a showcase that is all killer, no filler and to give story-rich developers a more conducive platform to showcase their games. Through this, Fellow Traveller hopes to shine a spotlight on both the games in the showcase and also the wider story-rich category of indie games in the same way that Wholesome Direct has helped to raise the profile of cozy games.
The debut edition of the showcase, to be held in June 2026, will spotlight a lineup of 20-25 games, all chosen on a purely editorial basis with no paid or sponsored slots and no costs for participating developers to take part. Fans and media can expect exclusive announcements, first looks, new trailers, release dates, updates, and a few surprises, all tailored for audiences who care deeply about storytelling in games.
The showcase will be broadcast on the Fellow Traveller YouTube and Twitch channels and on a Steam event page, with the VOD to be available on the Fellow Traveller YouTube channel. Media and content creators will also be invited to broadcast or co-stream the showcase.
About the Organisers
The Story-Rich Showcase is an initiative of Fellow Traveller, an indie label dedicated to supporting developers expanding the boundaries of games as a storytelling medium. Founded in 2011, they are the publisher of many award-winning games including Citizen Sleeper, 1000xRESIST, Hacknet, Paradise Killer, Genesis Noir, and Beacon Pines. Upcoming titles include the four-times IGF-nominated Titanium Court, restaurant-management RPG The Hearth and Harbour, and Nirvana Noir, a detective game set beyond time and space.
As a small, self-funded label, Fellow Traveller is able to release between three and five games a year but has sought to support the wider indie narrative game development community through other initiatives. These include LudoNarraCon, an annual digital festival celebrating narrative games, held on Steam every year since April 2019.
